In understanding the multi-faceted approach that is necessary to properly treat and work with those effected by substance use, we diversify our clinical services in order to meet those needs. We incorporate a twelve-step based recovery model with clinical approaches such as motivational interviewing, engagement techniques, and development of coping skills needed for long-term recovery.

Utilizing healthy coping skills is vital in promoting recovery and dealing with life’s stressors. Providing evidenced-based techniques helps individuals find coping strategies that work for them. This has been known to decrease forms of self-medication as well as increase self-esteem and self-confidence.

Those healthy coping skills include:

* Meditation

* Journaling

* Physical Activity

* Healthy Social Supports

* Empathy

Drug & Alcohol Counseling

We are in the midst of a drug epidemic on Long Island that is affecting young people at record rates.

As the world moves at an increasingly faster pace we have seen a dramatic increase in substance abuse specifically over the past several years. The Center for Disease Control declared substance abuse a national crisis in 2011. The increased use of prescription painkillers for nonmedical reasons (without a prescription for the high they cause), along with growing sales, has contributed to the large number of overdoses and deaths. In 2010, 1 in every 20 people in the United States age 12 and older—a total of 12 million people—reported using prescription painkillers nonmedically according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Based on the data from the Drug Enforcement Administration, sales of these drugs to pharmacies and health care providers have increased by more than 300 percent since 1999. (NIDA)

We here at Life Center Counseling Group, understand the growing concern of the epidemic on Long Island and look to combat this crisis through comprehensive Drug and Alcohol services. We offer a wide range of screening and assessments to help better serve this population.
