LGBTQ+ Counseling
“To be nobody but yourself in a world that’s doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting.” e.e. cummings
Everyday life can be hard enough and then add dealing with prejudice, coming out to one’s family, sorting out an “authentic” sense of self in the face of social expectations and pressures. Therapy can help manage the choices and emotions that are inevitable for most LGBTQ people.
Our counselors Elisa Waters (LMSW) and Wendell Miller (LMSW), and Barbara understand the pressures related to sexual orientation, gender identity, the formation of gender and the traumatic effects of oppression can lead to depression, suicide, anxiety, relationship difficulties and substance abuse. The Life Center Counseling Group is a comfortable place for therapy, where you will receive the help you need without judgment. Whether you are struggling to come out, having family issues, marital/relationship issues, or just dealing with the day-to-day struggles of life, your therapist will create a treatment plan specific to you and your needs in an environment that allows you to speak freely, openly, and honestly about your needs. We are here to help you navigate the challenges in order to become the most authentic version of yourself.
